Description: The school for children with down syndrome comes under the volunteer program in Bolivia. The school helps children with down syndrome to develop their skills in areas such as ceramics, cooking, gardening, computers, etc. There are about 150 students, divided in 3 levels as per their progress and performance. The school also organizes workshops for adults. There are 5 students per class, and 22 people working for the school. Volunteers can be class assistants of math, literature, science, history, sports, music, dances and also be involved in various workshops like cooking, ceramics, gardening and computers. The school also needs a phonoaudiologist, psycho pedagogue, psychologist, physiotherapist, genetic specialists. The project remains closed during July, December and January. Sometimes the school gets local volunteers from universities.

Highlights: Volunteer will work as a class and workshop assistant with pupils with down syndrome, and prepares games, songs and activities to help students in their learning process. Volunteer work for 5 hours a day from Monday to Friday. All the required textbooks will be provided by the school. Volunteer may bring games to share with the school children.

Qualifications: Volunteers must learn as much Spanish as possible before arriving in Bolivia. Volunteer can teach and experiment with any other skills they have in the school.

    Food: Global Crossroad offers three foods a day (Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner). We offer locally available, fresh and nutritious food.

    Accommodation: Depending upon the volunteers' particular country, location, and situation, volunteers will either stay with a host family, within a rented house, within a hostel, or within a cabin. We offer clean, comfortable living spaces, and volunteers will stay either in a single or shared room (depending on the host situation). Volunteers need to bring their own sleeping bags and other accessories.

    Comprehensive insurance coverage: Global Crossroad offers the most comprehensive insurance coverage. This insurance will cover travel health insurance, medical evaluation, travel accident insurance, travel assistance, travel language, and third party liability coverage. Our insurance is one of the best insurance plans available in market for those interested in volunteering.

    Thoroughly researched and personalized projects: Global Crossroad offers the best projects that focus on matching the interests, skills, and experiences of volunteers with their volunteer work.     Pre-departure information: Global Crossroad's comprehensive pre-departure booklet offers detailed information on issues that will concern volunteers, such as health, safety, and cultural shocks.

    Other Services: Global Crossroad's staff, in USA and abroad, are always willing to support volunteers by answering all of the volunteers' questions and providing the best advice on fundraising and other issues, like health, culture, excursions, travel, safety, and special events.
