Description:
The project takes place in Wenchang, about 70 km away from the main city of Haikou on Hainan Island. Wenchang town consist of a closely related community with a rich culture. Project dates: June 15 - June 28, 2009 June 22 - July 5, 2009 July 13 - July 26, 2009 August 31 - September 13, 2009 September 14 - September 27, 2009 September 21 - October 18, 2009 October 12 - November 8, 2009 October 19 - November 1, 2009 November 2 - November 29, 2009 November 30 - December 27, 2009 During the project, the international participants will work together with other volunteers and local students of different ages. The main activities consist of: - Developing friendship between the participants and the local students and teachers. - Visiting schools around Wenchang town. - Teaching English with the local English teachers. - Learning Chinese and local language. - Taking part in some sport games with the students. Along with teaching the local students English, it is very important to let them meet friends from other parts of the world, thus giving them a chance to expand their horizons. Activities during the weekend will be going to the beach near Wenchang, visiting the cultural temples, etc. There is an extra fee of 1.500 RMB (about USD 210 US) for two weeks; 3.000 RMB (about USD 420 US) for four weeks for participation in this project, intended to support the hosting organization.
Qualifications:
Interest in teaching and cultural work. We expect all the volunteers to be open minded, leave prejudice behind and show initiative. Creative ideas for the work, discussions, and the free time are expected to come from the group.
