Volunteer in Australia
Australia
Durations of Program: 1-2 weeks, 2-4 weeks, 5-8 weeks and 9-12 weeks
Typical Duration of Program: 1-2 weeks
Dates: Dates are open.
Description:
Experience the beauty of the Australian wilderness while you work to preserve it! Work side by side with local Aussies and fellow volunteers from around the world on meaningful conservation projects throughout Australia. Unlike most tourists, volunteers have the opportunity to do more than just scratch the surface and instead experience the real Australia first hand. Volunteers are placed with local service projects in environmental and wildlife conservation. Volunteers receive an orientation to Australian culture and the volunteer placement upon arrival. Volunteers typically work in small groups with other international volunteers form around the world. An assigned mentor at the project site provides assistance and support throughout the program, and volunteers generally live in clean, comfortable shared housing or in some cases with screened local host families near the project site. Some projects require participants to stay in group camp sites. Depending on the particular project, you may be involved in: * Tree planting * Erosion and salinity control * Seed collection * Habitat restoration * Fence building/repair * Path construction/maintenance * Animal rescue and conservation * Beach clean up * Heritage protection * Flora and fauna surveys Specific project placements are designated upon arrival and depend on seasonal conditions and where volunteers are needed most at that particular time.
Highlights:
Due to Australia's vast range of landscapes, including its world-famous Great Barrier Reef, outback, rainforests, and highlands, there are endless types of environmental conservation and animal rescue projects seeking help from volunteers around the world. Projects exist in both urban and rural areas of the country and usually last for 1-2 weeks, meaning that within a 4 week trip you will be exposed to 3-4 projects in different locations.
