Duration of Program: 2-4 weeks
Description:
Volunteers will be assigned to local schools where they will be expected to teach basic conversational English skills (14-20 hours/week). You will have free time to explore one of the most untouched parts of the country that China has to offer. You can experience China and make a difference in the lives of these children by participating in Abroad China's 3 week volunteer teaching program in Sichuan. Millions of school-age children, especially minority children in China's remote western provinces, receive only a rudimentary education. To be able to be part of China's economic boom and communicate with the rest of the world, these children need basic English skills. Program Schedule: Day 1: Arrival in Shanghai Day 2/3: Orientation, Crash course in Chinese, City tour and sightseeing Day 4: Take plane to Chengdu or Kunming, then take bus/train from to town/village Day 4-Day 10: Volunteer as a teacher in Sichuan or Yunnan Province Day 11: Back to Chengdu or Kunming Day 12/13: Visit Chengdu or Kunming and nearby attractions Day 14: Fly to Beijing Day 14/15: Beijing city tour and sightseeing Day 15: Leave for USA Note: Schedule may be subject to change
Qualifications:
If you are a native English speaker, from 18-65 years old, good with children, mature, independent, in good health, interested in international education, and energetic, then you will be a great fit as a volunteer English teacher. No previous teaching experience is necessary.
