  • Accra

Durations of Program: 5-8 weeks, 9-12 weeks, 3-6 months, 7-12 months and over 2 years
Typical Duration of Program: 3-6 months

Description: The FCA is a growing organization dedicated to the promotion of contemporary art within Ghana, West Africa and Africa as a whole. The organization provides an information resource for artists, regularly holds workshops and exhibitions, and provides a space for artists, curators and academics to share ideas on the future for African art. The organization is based in Accra, within offices very close to the city center. It has very close links to the international diplomatic community with Ambassadors and High Commissioners on its board, the University of Accra and to international art associations.

Current & upcoming FCA projects

- Aids Stigma campaign in collaboration with AED (a USAID funded project)
- World Food Programme Exhibition
- World Bank - Corruption Exhibition

Current Placement Opportunities

* Event Organizer/Office Administrator
The role will be to provide administrative support, contribute to stakeholder relationship management, and provide creative input to the organization of events.

* Project Coordinator
Set up and implement new projects with other organizations. The FCA is currently undertaking the following projects:
    - Aids Stigma campaign in collaboration with AED (a USAID funded project)
    - World Food Programme Exhibition
    - World Bank - Corruption Exhibition
The volunteer will be required to support the coordination of these projects and look to establish new projects with other organizations.

* Fundraiser
The FCA is in need of new office space for their growing organization. They are looking to lease a building in Accra which will serve both as an office, a meeting place for artists and a Contemporary Art Gallery (Ghana currently has no National Contemporary Art Museum). This requires significant funding. The intern will be required to look at the options for fundraising, meet with potential donors (such as UNESCO and private institutions), draft fundraising proposals.

All roles requires a minimum of 5 hours a day (suggested 10-3pm), 5 days a week. You will work alongside the current part time secretary and other artists and volunteers, of which there will typically be at least 3-4 also at the office. You will be required to attend one weekly general meeting, usually on Wednesday afternoons from 4 pm till 6 pm.

Additionally, you will be required to frequent galleries and cultural organizations in Accra, to attend occasional evening events, and represent FCA with other volunteers of the foundation. This will be a wonderful way to learn about the city and meet people.
