Description:
The International Foundation for Education and Self-Help (IFESH) operates the Teachers for African in various countries in sub-Saharan Africa. Currently IFESH operates teacher volunteer programs in Benin, Ethiopia, Ghana, Guinea, Malawi and Namibia. IFESH invites applications from experienced college/university teachers, college professors, administrators and others with educational experience who wish to help improve education in African countries. In Malawi, IFESH is also doing some vocational training and requests applications from experienced vocational teachers. IFESH works primarily at the tertiary level, but also at the secondary level and in various government educational agencies.
Highlights:
The International Foundation for Education and Self-Help invites applications from school teachers, college and university professors and school administrators who wish to spend one academic year helping to improve the quality of education in Ghana, Benin, Guinea, Ethiopia, Malawi and Namibia. Since 1992, more than 780 American teacher volunteers have been recruited and assigned to African schools, colleges, universities and governmental educational agencies.
Qualifications:
Applicants for the Teachers for Africa Program MUST BE either U.S. Citizens or permanent residents of the United States. Applicants must also have a minimum of three years of teaching experience. Skills: The Teachers for Africa program in Namibia is looking for teacher educators. Currently, IFESH is looking for (1) teacher educators to train college student teachers in Upper Primary and Junior Secondary Education, to train student teachers in teaching Integrated Natural Sciences (integrated approach to teaching physics, chemistry and biology); (2) teacher educators to train college student teachers in Lower Primary Education; and (3) teachers who can train trainers of vocational education, in the areas of automobile technology of repair and maintenance, entrepreneurship, electrical and electronics trade courses (TV/radio), information technology and computer operations, and hotel catering/food preparation and cooking/food and beverage services.
Salary / Pay: Almost all expenses,
including the costs for placement,
pre-departure expenses,
pre-departure orientation, in-country
orientation, flight tickets to and from
country of placement, health
insurance for one academic year,
and $800 per month stipend will
be covered by IFESH while in the
field.
