Description:
In most African countries, more that 50 percent of the population is illiterate. How can democratization and economic stability take root in conditions where there is no hope for the young' The work of IFESH is helping to build civil society and sustainable development through educating the poor, the youth and the underprivileged.
Highlights:
The International Foundation for Education and Self-Help invites applications from school teachers, college and university professors and school administrators who wish to spend one academic year helping to improve the quality of education in Ghana, Benin, Ethiopia, Namibia, Malawi and Guinea. Since 1992, more than 780 American teacher volunteers have been recruited and assigned to African schools, colleges, universities and governmental educational agencies.
Qualifications:
Applicants for the Teachers for Africa Program must be either U.S. citizens or permanent residents of the United States. Applicants must also have three years teaching experience. Skills: Most teacher volunteers in Malawi will be teaching either in Colleges of Education or in Education Departments in universities. The focus of the program in Malawi is the training of teachers. Applicants need a minimum of a bachelors degree, though applicants with graduate degrees are preferred.

Salary / Pay: Almost all expenses,
including the costs for placement,
pre-departure expenses,
pre-departure orientation, in-country
orientation, flight tickets to and from
country of placement, health
insurance for one academic year,
and $800 per month stipend will
be covered by IFESH while in the
field.
