  • Gyeonggi

Durations of Program: 1-2 weeks and 3-6 months
Typical Duration of Program: 1-2 weeks
Dates: June 3 - August 21

Description: Stone & Water is a gallery space in An-yang, South Korea that has been working as a cultural energy in the community. This is an artistic place supplementing and substituting other existing exhibit spaces, extending from the realm of art to the scope of life. It also contributes to enhancing and improving urban surroundings and life conditions, by replacing them with some artistic elements.

Stone & Water holds "2009 SAP: Seoksu Art Project" where about 20~25 artists from around the world participate and create art productions during 3 months using vacant spaces around Seok-Su Market and An-yang River. SAP 2009 will be a locally based art project that looks for a new possibility of traditional markets and regional economic communities that have been faded away due to market economy. It also hopes to wake up community movements through new forms of cultural art villages and by restoring small communities that have disappeared in rapid industrialization.

Together with Korean volunteer(s), the international participant(s) will be involved in various activities related to Seoksu Art Project. They will mainly assist the artists to create art products for the project. It will be manual work such as purchasing material, helping with the construction of products, etc. The volunteers can also help with some office work or be translator among participants. Having knowledge or experience related to art can be very helpful.

The project is based in An-yang, Gyeonggi Province, 40 km away south from Seoul.

Volunteers will receive 100,000 Won per month (about USD 70) for pocket money.
