Help Kids with Mental and Physical Disabilities

  Peru

  • Cusco

Durations of Program: 2-4 weeks, 5-8 weeks and 9-12 weeks
Typical Duration of Program: 2-4 weeks
Dates: Every Monday

Description: Volunteers can help with daily routines such as feeding and cleaning, and also assist with recreational activities, playing, music and exercising. Joining the local organization in its commitment to serving the physical and mentally disabled population also helps add to the sense of solidarity that nurtures their efforts.

As a volunteer you can help take care of kids with mental and physical disabilities. Disabled Kids lack human rights, social integration and basic support - all due to a severe lack of understanding amongst local communities regarding people with disabilities. Very often disabled kids are excluded and hidden from society under the assumption that they are a burden and unable to contribute anything of value.

In fact, Peru doesn't have access to appropriate equipment and materials because our government does not understand their needs. Orphanages, schools, community centers and special care facilities are places where disabled individuals can receive nutrition, education, health care, and have an opportunity to learn how to integrate into society. By providing individual attention and affection, volunteers offer much needed help to under-staffed organizations with large numbers of children and adults in low-income areas.
