VAE Kenya's Mission Statement: VAE Volunteer Teachers looks for young people who actively want to teach in very poor rural schools around the town of Gilgil in Kenya. All our schools have a shortage of teachers so there is a full time job to do. We expect Volunteers to be active in all aspects of school life such as games and looking after embryonic libraries.
Volunteers live in accommodation near to the school and as part of their community. No houses have running water or electricty.
We have two associated charities which Volunteers are an integral part, one concerned with school infrastructure and equipment and the other offering scholarships to children from our schools to go to secondary school when normally they would not afford to go on. We also have close ties helping the street children of the local town, an informal project which has been incredibly successful.
