Durations of Program: 2-4 weeks, 5-8 weeks and 9-12 weeks
Typical Duration of Program: 5-8 weeks
Dates: Throughout the year, first Wednesday of each month

Description: Become an integral part of a remote Gibbon Sanctuary in the mountainous regions of Thailand. Dedicated to the rescue, care and protection of injured and abused gibbons, the sanctuary was established in 1991 and currently houses over 40 gibbons as well as a number of other animals in need. All volunteers receive orientation and training including language workshops and adventure activities. Full training will then be given at the sanctuary in all aspects of animal care. As a volunteer, you assist with the day-to-day running of the sanctuary including feeding, cleaning out enclosures and caring for the baby apes. Participate fundraising activities and developing outreach programs and an environmental education center. Volunteers who are interested in furthering their studies on gibbons are most welcome to do so. During your stay you will learn a huge amount about the gibbons and nature in general. Immerse yourself in the indigenous Thai culture in the countryside near the Myanmar border, not far from the market town of Mae Sot.   The project is also an opportunity to pick up some basic language skills and travel to other places in the 'Land of Smiles'.
