Description:
Be part of it with i-to-i! Our goal is to achieve 400yrs of combined volunteering all over the world by the end of 2008. So far we have achieved 325yrs which when broken down means we achieved the following: - Over 5500 children cared for on our community projects around the world - A minimum of 13,000 children and adults taught English in schools and community centres - Hundreds of animals protected including Turtles, Pandas, Elephants, Monkeys and more - At least 80 homes and structures built for families and communities in need - More than 8000 trees planted which are enough trees to offset the CO2 emissions of over 2,000 cars Want to really get to know the people you teach? India is a bit like a good work of art; the more you look the more you end up seeing. It's certainly not a country that should be rushed and getting to know one community intimately is often just as enjoyable as a large scale tour. There is certainly plenty here to explore, Jaipur having long since broken through the old city walls and out into to the desert beyond. Inside, the narrow streets are full of the usual mix of rickshaws and fruit carts as well as the not so usual pink buildings of the Old Town. Our partner project in the city teaches children from disadvantaged areas, and would love to make use of your skills. Our TEFL certification is included in the price to provide you with the confidence to face your first day of class. Highlights:
What were the highlights of your trip that you couldn't wait to tell your friends about? "I felt I made a significant contribution within the schools. I taught English, art, sport and even managed to paint the classroom walls with animals and flowers which the children loved! Also, Karnika (the local area co-coordinator) was excellent. She's truly amazing! Karnika is a fantastic organizer/motivator with heaps of enthusiasm. She leads with her heart and as a result is respected by the teachers and overseas volunteers alike." (Susannah York) Neglected, abandoned, or run-away children on the streets in the cities of India live a life that is often void of love and warmth, safety, protection, and parental care. Volunteers can help to change this reality through their involvement in a variety of teaching and extra curricular activities that focus on providing the children basic daily care. The aim is to steer the children away from the streets and towards employment.
Qualifications:
You don't need any qualifications to participate in a teaching placement in India. Volunteers should have a genuine love for children, be self-motivated, flexible, and adaptable and have plenty of patience. You should also have a willingness to work hard.
