Build Homes for Underprivileged Communities in Kenya
Kenya
Durations of Program: 1-2 weeks, 2-4 weeks, 5-8 weeks and 9-12 weeks
Dates: multiple dates year round
Description:
Based in the laid-back modern town of Nakuru, you'll be working on a building project which aims to renovate and build housing and community facilities in some of the town's poorest areas. Every year thousands of people move to Kenya's urban centers with a dream of prosperity and a better life, your efforts can help these dreams come true. Depending on the needs of the project, you could be involved in anything from laying foundations to decorating homes, repairing roofs to mixing cement. This is a great opportunity to live and work alongside ordinary Kenyans and help them to build a happier and more prosperous future.
Highlights:
The project is part of the walk childrens church, which works in a disadvantaged community of Nakuru. The building project aims to help local people build their homes and any other building project the community may benefit from such as community schools, hospitals and churches. In the past the project has helped several people build their houses and needs help to continue its good work.
Qualifications:
You will need to be willing to get involved in hard work, be very hands on and willing to get involved in anything that is asked of you. You have a love of the outdoors and not mind working in any weather. Building experience is not necessary but if you have a specific skill it will be welcomed. The ability to view the bigger picture and long-term goals of the placement are essential to the understanding of activities that may seem repetitive and a little insignificant.
Cost in US$: $1252 for 1 week; $210 each additional week
Experience Required: no
