Work for the WWF in Tanzania and Live with the Maasai
Tanzania
Arusha,
Serengeti,
Zanzibar
Durations of Program: 1-2 weeks, 2-4 weeks, 5-8 weeks and 9-12 weeks
Typical Duration of Program: 9-12 weeks
Dates: January, April, July, October
Description:
You will begin this 10 week adventure by spending one week in the Greenforce house in Arusha learning the Maasai language and more about their culture. Your acclimatisation also takes place here as does the first part of your wildlife training. At the beginning of week two we head deep into the African bush to the Maasai village of Eluai, which will be your home for 8 weeks. Here the group will be given a formal welcome ceremony, hosted by the village chief before settling into your traditional 'boma'. You will learn how to track and identify the wildlife, and work on satellite camps for a few days at a time to reach regions far away from the camp. There will also be a lot of involvement in village life, part of which is to teach the Massai English. Midway through the phase we will take you off camp to safari in the Serengeti and visit Lake Natron, Africa's largest flamingo colony. As you leave the camp at the end of week 9, we take you down to the Spice Island of Zanzibar for days out on boats, relaxing and evening barbeques on the beach. An all round complete African experience. At the end of your expedition join us on one of our extensions, climb Kilimanjaro, or PADI dive training in Zanzibar.
