South Africa

Typical Duration of Program: 1-2 weeks

Description:
If you are thinking about going into teaching in the future, or simply want to help and work alongside teachers in underprivileged communities, then this placement is for you! You don't need any qualifications or experience to participate in this placement, just passion and enthusiasm. This community placement offers volunteers a unique opportunity to experience the colour and benefits of African life and learn from locals and other volunteers alike. Unlike the majority of volunteer organisations, WWISA is based in the country you volunteer in, providing vital on-site support and guidance that is tailored to the specific issues of life in South Africa. Your teaching project at Kurland will see you heavily involved with all aspects of community programmes. The time spent teaching is obviously limited to the school and creche opening hours and some days will be spent getting involved in various other projects such as sports training and whatever else you are interested in! WWISA is great as it allows the skills and interests of the volunteer to factor into what they get up to whilst on the placement. The school where you will be assisting is a short-staffed school within the Kurland Community which caters for approximately 570 scholars aged 7 - 14, the school has a high student/teacher ratio with some classes of up to 40 scholars Project Objective: Voluntary service is the one human endeavour in which men and women of all races, nationalities, backgrounds and languages unite as a single force in pursuit of a single goal: helping others to help themselves

Worldwide Experience's Mission Statement: Worldwide Experience strives to conserve what man is fast destroying- our own environment. We support conservation and community projects through the recruitment of volunteers from around the world to help work on these diverse, and worthwhile projects.
If you are thinking of taking a Gap Year or even just want to get away for your summer break Worldwide Experience will have the placement to suit you. From 2 weeks-3 months, we have projects in South Africa, Namibia, Kenya and Sri Lanka, and our experienced team will help place you on a project that will suit your needs the most.
Moreover, all the programmes have been set up with the needs and requirements of the placement in mind. This means that whether you're helping to dart a lion, track a cheetah, ID an elephant or teach a class of children, you are making a difference through your work there.
Your safety is also in the forefront of our minds, and as a fully bonded tour operator, all volunteers booked to travel through us will be protected by bonding, as required by ABTA and ATOL. We can also organise all flights direct from our UK office.
