Educating children and improving the facilities in schools and kindergartens in North Karnataka
India
Duration of Program: 2-4 weeks
Typical Duration of Program: 1-2 weeks
Dates: March 16 - March 29, 2009
Description:
Hubli-Dharwad is situated in North Karnataka and is 133 km from the south coast of Karwar. Hubli and Dharwad are sister cities and have a wonderful agricultural background of growing chilies, onions, vegetables, Indian cotton and sugarcanes. The region culturally belongs to the wonderful Gowda community whose main source of income is agricultural produce. It is one of the very interesting communities who have maintained their ethnic background and still practice the same way of life like their fore-fathers with a little or no change at all. The Gowdas are one of the very loving communities who take pride in practicing their original way of life. The schools of the villages in the region lack proper tutors and lack the basic exposure in terms of education. The volunteer project intends to provide basic support of education and awareness. Most of the schools were noticed of not having playgrounds for the children. The volunteers will be involved in various activities ranging from physical work, creative education and entertainment activities in schools and kindergartens and spreading awareness on issues related to education, environmental protection, health and hygiene.
