Established in 1999, Y.A.U.C. has been working for years with the Kathmandu community to help abandoned children with shelter, food and education. With our staff, and community support, we hope to develop the abilities of these children who would otherwise have never been given such opportunities as schooling, and healthy surroundings.
Cost in US$: free
Cost Include Description:
We believe you should not have to pay to volunteer your time and energy. When you come to Nepal to volunteer for YAUC, you are expected to pay for your own living expenses which should amount to less than US$100 per week (which should cover housing, 2-3 meals out per day, taxis, and entertainment). This will be more than enough to live independently in Kathmandu city.If you would prefer to feel more connected to the culture and our children, you may choose to live here at the orphanage for free in our spare room. If you eat with us you should offer to help buy food.
Experience Required: no
Typical Volunteer: We welcomed our first volunteer in October of 2004, and have had great success in finding energetic, self-motivated people of all cultures who love spending time with children. We usually only have one or two volunteers at a time, so the direction you choose to take with the children is very much up to you. Our volunteers have been very creative in setting goals for themselves, and since there is little direction from the staff, you should ideally be able to independantly task.
