Environmental Education in Ecuador

  Ecuador
  • All Other Regions of Ecuador:
  • Rural Areas

Duration of Program: 9-12 weeks
Typical Duration of Program: 9-12 weeks
Dates: All Year Round

Description: The protection of Ecuador's naturally blessed landscape largely depends upon the environmental awareness of its citizens. In a country where eco-tourism is the main source of revenue, protection of nature is essential for further economic stability. Yet, unless the citizens of Ecuador can fully understand the essence of environmental education, the future economic well-being of the country could be jeopardized.

In our volunteer in Ecuador project, volunteers work with grass roots organizations devoted to promoting environmental education from the local level. Though the particular tasks of volunteers in the Environmental education program vary, most volunteers' work will be to involve local citizens with the local environmental organizations. Ecuador volunteers may also create conferences for children and adults about the conservation of nature, the environment, and natural resources. Other projects may include educating the community about eco-friendly garbage management, as well as the construction of proper garbage receptacles and the initiation of a community recycling project. Additional works may include fixing local roads, creating proper signs for roads and trails, and the creation of a community park showcasing native plants.
