Disabled Children Project in Ecuador

  Ecuador
  • Quito:
  • Quito

Duration of Program: 9-12 weeks
Typical Duration of Program: 9-12 weeks
Dates: all year round

Description: Reports shows that nearly 300,000 children suffer from different forms of disabilities in Ecuador. Approximately 35 percent of children in Ecuador's orphanages are disabled. In many poor and indigenous families, these disabled children are kept at home without adequate medical care, further worsening their conditions. Volunteer Ecuador's disabled children project was thus developed to take care of these handicapped and physically retarded children. The project aims to help children by offering them physical therapy, stimulation, and care. Volunteer in Ecuador project welcomes any interested or skilled volunteer to work with these kids.

Volunteers interested in the Disabled Children Project must have a special interest in working with affected children. Working with disabled children can prove to be very emotionally challenging for volunteers, but even more rewarding. Though seeing the ways different illnesses have affected young lives can be heartrending, work with disabled children is immensely uplifting. It is truly amazing and rewarding to watch a child respond to your love, care and attention. Ecuador Volunteers will help in language therapy, mimical language and education. Additional works include caring for the children in terms of feeding, washing, playing, and teaching.
