Duration of Program: 9-12 weeks
Typical Duration of Program: 9-12 weeks
Description:
Located in Johannesburg and Cape Town, these South Africa volunteer eco-tourism projects are designed to attract more tourists by protecting the existing forests and wildlife of Knysna, Tsitsikama forests in the Cape region, and Mpumalanga forest North of Johannesburg, and developing butterfly gardens, youth training centers, computer centers, bee farming, and biological centers. This project also focuses on local cultures, wilderness adventures, personal growth, and learning new ways to live on our vulnerable planet. Volunteering in South Africa for this project involves helping to minimize the adverse effects of traditional tourism on the natural environment and enhance the cultural integrity of the local people. As a conservation volunteer in South Africa, you will upgrade the existing facilities and help develop creative eco-tourism related projects. Work includes gardening around the lodge, making signs for the already existing trails, helping with the construction of a classroom for the environmental education program, making new cages for the snakes, establishing a butterfly garden, and participating in related project jobs.
