Description: AIDS - a tragic disease and voracious killer in Africa. In spite of efforts aimed at preventing the spread of this devastating disease, the rate of HIV infection is still rising in many African countries. Added to the poverty and malnutrition already rampant in much of Africa, AIDS is crippling the lives and economies of many nations on the continent, and South Africa is no exception. The need for action now is urgent.

The HIV/AIDS education and awareness volunteer project in South Africa is designed to increase the awareness and knowledge of South Africans about the disease and how it spreads. Therefore, volunteers in the HIV/AIDS South Africa project will mainly be involved in educational and training activities meant to increase awareness and stop the epidemic of HIV/AIDS in South Africa. Volunteers will be working closely with local organizations who have established various community outreach programs and organize educational seminars and conferences on the virus within the local community.
