Duration of Program: 9-12 weeks
Typical Duration of Program: 9-12 weeks
Dates: all year round
Description:
An orphanage can seem a sad place. But for some South African children, an orphanage offers a refuge from the harsh conditions of the streets and a place to laugh, to learn, to grow - to experience the childhood they never really had before. Volunteer efforts in this project help to offer education, love, and friendship they lacked living on the streets. The exact job responsibilities of orphanage volunteers in South Africa depend on the needs of the individual orphanage as well as the skills and interests of the volunteers. However, volunteers normally teach basic English to the children, and also help to develop creative programs such as art, music, dance, and sports. Additional help such as in accompanying the children on day trips and help with sanitation, cooking, and administration might also be requested.
