Description:
Global Crossroad's Summer English Camp will help you find rewards to match the challenges of living and working in this relatively inaccessible country. If you prefer city life and it won't bother you to ride a crowded Shanghai City subway during rush hour, and you can't fall asleep on a Friday night until you've been partying and dancing until 2am, then you'll probably want to get a job in this city. Working in a more western city like Shanghai allows you to befriend other Westerners, catch the latest Hollywood movies, or sample diversified cuisine from Asian to European. Culture shock is still unavoidable but at least you won't feel lost - remember you are never alone when you are teaching in the camp with other teachers from Global Crossroad who are also there sharing the same experiences. On the other hand, living and teaching in smaller cities in Zhejiang Province will offer a slower-paced and often more scenic experience, which is an ideal way to become immersed in the local Chinese culture. These are just two of the placements we have available for the summer camps, and show the range of experience you can find for this project. We have placements in Binzhou and Qingdao as well, and more may become available soon. The summer English work camps in each location are specially designed to be thorough English teaching and conversation programs. The basic activities for this work include teaching simple English and grammar and speaking English to 5-16 year old students in an every day environment that differs from their regular school hours and home. For the two weeks that you are volunteering in China, you will live with a group of highly enthusiastic Chinese students and teach them the beauty of the English language. Benefits include a stipend of 2000 yuan for teaching at the camp. Food and housing are included, and travel insurance will also be included. In the mornings and evenings, you will work in this English teaching camp. In your free time, you will explore China's most exotic features by investigating ancient temples, riding bicycles, enjoying barbequed mutton, and cooking traditional Chinese cuisine. Also, when you are not volunteer teaching, you will have opportunities to undertake a wide range of adventurous activities, such as martial arts, chigong, archery contests, visiting traditional families, and enjoying the splendor of Chinese style Karaoke for singing and dancing. Find time to join this exciting Global Crossroad program, and you will explore the Chinese lifestyle that lies hidden from most travelers.
