Description: Live and work with the Ashaninka people in the Vilcabamba Mountains, near the Ashaninka Communal Reserve and the Otishi National Park.

The Ashaninka Communal Reserve has an incredibly diverse and fragile ecosystem which sustains the hunting activities of the native communities in the region. This Volunteer Peru conservation project offers a unique opportunity to join the Ashaninkas in the villages of Betania, Poyeni and Shevoriato, as part of a pilot project centered around rainforest conservation, economic development, and indigenous rights in the Tambo River region of Eastern Peru.

Sites are equipped with running water and toilets. The shower has cold water only and there is no electricity. Each intern will have a Rustic bed and shelf space. Satellite telephone service is available at Betania and Poyeni. Living conditions are rustic and difficult. The weather can be hot, humid and often rainy. There are insects, bats and many other creatures. Please consider this environment before you apply for a position.
