Description:
Volunteering on a Medicine & Healthcare project in Mongolia, in Asia, can be an eye-opening experience. As a volunteer you will gain a great deal of valuable work experience alongside some of the most skilled and inspirational doctors in the country. The facilities are generally of a very basic standard and patients will often have traveled vast distances to attend appointments. Medicine & Healthcare projects in Mongolia are based in the capital, Ulaanbaatar, where you will be working in busy central hospitals or specialized clinics dealing with pediatrics, maternity or perhaps trauma patients. The doctors are eager for you to achieve as much as possible during your placement, by working in a number of different departments. Medicine and healthcare practice in Mongolia is typically 'Western', but there are also a number of private complementary medical clinics where you can spend some time, to help broaden your medicine and healthcare experience. Medical Elective Placement Overseas in Mongolia If you are currently enrolled in medical school and wish to do your elective in Mongolia, you will most likely be working in a large hospital in Ulaanbaatar. You will shadow one of our supervisors who are very experienced at working with western medical and healthcare students. They will be eager to test out your knowledge, as well as give you the benefit of their training and experience. Outside of the hospital you will live with a local host family, who will provide you with all your meals outside of your normal working hours. When you arent at work there is plenty to do in and around Ulaanbaatar, and the other volunteers are all centrally located, which means there is always someone around to go out with. Highlights:
Home of one of the last truly nomadic peoples, Mongolia is a land of wide open spaces unbounded by fences with barren desert, wild fertile steppe and imposing mountains. Mongolia's ancient history dates back to the once great empire of Chinggis Khaan and you may even find relics of a prehistoric nature in the great expanse of the Gobi! All accommodation and food you receive is arranged and monitored by Projects Abroad . All projects placements are regularly visited and checked. In addition, this projects offers the opportunity to become fully immersed in the culture in a manner which even the most hardened backpackers could never hope to do.

Projects Abroad's Mission Statement: As part of the global economy, Projects Abroad helps create local employment wherever we send volunteers. Employing local staff overseas and using their talents and knowledge is important to us. This local knowledge and support enables the organization to channel the skills of the volunteers from more affluent countries to regions around the world where they are needed. Volunteers also learn from their placements and the people they meet, and they gain experience in a chosen field. In the 21st century, we believe this mutual respect is what cultural exchange is all about.
