Description: Building New Hope is always in need of teachers' assistants for a small day school for children of financially distressed families. The school is attended by 36 children each weekday where they received tutoring for their school work as well as new activities not offered in public schools. We stress reading with regular visits to our community library plus story-reading in school. Volunteers are encouraged to offer new activities and 'paseandos' that will open the world to these children who otherwise have few opportunities in education.

Qualifications: Ideally, we need a volunteer who speaks Spanish at least at an intermediate level, can commit to at least three months here in Granada, will communicate with other interested volunteers and to coordinate their schedules at the project, and can begin during the months of August or ASAP.

Typical Volunteer: Our volunteers are energetic, self-directed, and committed to improving the lives of the children and young adults of Granada. They are open to learning about a different culture and willing to adapt to the different environment in order to show their respect to the Nicaraguan people.
