Teach English in Ghana

  Ghana
  • Accra:
  • Accra

Durations of Program: 1-2 weeks, 2-4 weeks, 5-8 weeks and 9-12 weeks
Typical Duration of Program: 5-8 weeks

Description: Like in any other developing countries in the world, the demand of English is growing incredibly high in Ghana. The knowledge of English is a gateway to good and high paying jobs and this trend has lured the young generation to learn and master the art of speaking good English.

The children in Ghana are very keen to learn and improve their conversational English. Most of the schools also put extra emphasis on English education. This project helps the primary and junior secondary class children between the age of 5-10 and 11-16 to learn English and also get education on math and science. Teaching resources are available for the teachers. Ghana has 3 academic semesters a year.

Role of a Volunteer

Volunteers can teach any subjects like English, Math, or Science in Primary and Junior Secondary Schools and engage themselves in the following activities:

* Teach conversational English, Math, or Science to students who age between 5 -10 in primary schools and 11-16 in junior secondary schools
* Read literature and improve the low comprehension level and poor pronunciation of students
* Provide theoretical and practical assistance and aide the teachers
* Interact with the students

Highlights: During the school holidays, holiday classes would be organized for the school children and volunteers will be taken for sightseeing. The schools in Ghana are resource poor, and under staffed. The schools also need good teachers to teach good English to the students. Volunteers are also needed to provide theoretical and practical assistance to primary and junior secondary school math, English and science teachers in Ghana.

Qualifications: There is no specific qualification for teaching project in Ghana except fluency in English and love for the children.
