Typical Duration of Program: 5-8 weeks
Description:
The Global Volunteer Network currently has volunteer opportunities available through our partner organizations in Vietnam. Volunteers have the chance to help care for children in orphanages, and teach English in universities and language centers in Da Nang (Danang), a beautiful coastal city in central Vietnam. This program will give you a chance to make an important contribution to the people of Vietnam, and to gain an in depth experience of the country and its culture that will stay with you the rest of your life. Orphanage Placements There are 5 placement locations which are: Da Nang & Hoi An: Here volunteers will work in the Day Care Centre (home for disabled children), the Redcross Baby Orphanage and The Hoi An Street Children Centre. At these placements volunteers will teach English, arts, crafts, songs and sports and in the Baby Orphanage volunteers will clean, feed and play with the children. Volunteers will also teach English to the local community at various language centres. Tam Ky Placements: Volunteers in Tam Ky, 70 kilometres south from Da Nang, have the opportunity to work with four community organizations: The Home of Affection, the Vocational Training Center, the Provincial Baby Orphanage, and the Education Center for Tam Thanh Community. Volunteers will teach English, reading, speaking and will take care of the children in the Orphanages. Hue Placements: In Hue, some 75 kilometres north of Da Nang, volunteers can participate in three different programs - working in orphanages, working with children with disabilities, or teaching English to students from various social assistance programs around the city. Quang Ngai: Quang Ngai is the capital of the Quang Ngai province. Here volunteers will help with the orpahange and teach English to the community at the Quang Ngai Social Protection Center and the Vocational Center Dung Quat. Cu Lao Cham Island: Volunteers in the Cu Lao Cham Program are expected to teach English as well as arts and crafts to orphans, disadvantaged children and local people on Cu Lao Cham Island, 20 km from Hoi An beach. Teaching English in Duy Tan University Volunteers teach English to classes on the Duy Tan University campus in central Da Nang. This program allows volunteers to contribute to the education of students from rural and urban areas. The teaching opportunities are in areas such as English for computers, English for tourism and English for business and accounting. For this program, volunteers are placed in a home stay. Language Centre Volunteers teach English at foreign language centres in Da Nang and Hoi An. Volunteers are expected to assist with Vietnamese native English teachers to teach English to young students. The students come from high schools and universities, as well as full-time workers. Teaching will involve helping high school students with their English examinations to colleges or universities or equipping them with necessary English skills for conversations at work or higher education. A volunteer is expected to teach 10 classes per week (around 15 hours). Class sizes are from 15 to 20. Teaching material is provided. For this program, volunteers are accommodated in a rented house with volunteers from other programs.
