Durations of Program: 2-4 weeks, 5-8 weeks, 9-12 weeks and 3-6 months
Typical Duration of Program: 5-8 weeks

Description: Be part of it with i-to-i!
Our goal is to achieve 400yrs of combined volunteering all over the world by the end of 2008.

So far we have achieved 325yrs which when broken down means we achieved the following:

- Over 5500 children cared for on our community projects around the world
- A minimum of 13,000 children and adults taught English in schools and community centres
- Hundreds of animals protected including Turtles, Pandas, Elephants, Monkeys and more
- At least 80 homes and structures built for families and communities in need
- More than 8000 trees planted which are enough trees to offset the CO2 emissions of over 2,000 cars

Do you want to boost your career by going traveling?

This is definitely the most exciting way to enhance your job opportunities, and a lot more exciting than the sort of work experience we remember from school. When you volunteer on this project everybody benefits; the project gains from your skills, experience and fresh perspective and you experience life in a busy hospital. If you are able to cope with the basics in a medical environment, you'll get a rare opportunity to enhance your bedside manner as well as your CV. Volunteers use their skills by helping with general medical assistance in the pharmacy, blood bank or pre-natal care unit. In your time off you'll discover the mystery of why more people don't travel to a country as beautiful as Honduras as you wander through Mayan ruins, cloud forests and the golden sands on its Caribbean coast.

Health Work Experience in La Esperanza

Highlights: What were the highlights of your trip that you couldn't wait to tell your friends about?

"Got to see and do many things in the hospital that I would have never seen or have done at the United States as an undergraduate student. I also got to meet tons of people and I got to travel with them every weekend." (Ricardo Martin)

These placements in Honduras are great ways for you to match your skills or interest in the health field with a project that will greatly appreciate your time and effort.

This project is based in the small town of La Esperanza (pop. 13,000) which is in the Western Highlands of Honduras. It is an agricultural region about 3-4 hours by bus from the capital Tegucigalpa. La Esperanza is populated mainly by the indigenous Lenca people, and the town is best known for its traditional Sunday market. Although the roads are unpaved, the local area is blessed with magnificent scenery and is fantastic for hiking / cycling.
