Typical Duration of Program: 2-4 weeks

Description: Thousands of Nepali children are orphans, and the numbers have been rising in recent years. ELI has been working closely with schools and orphanages in Nepal to support children's programs:

*Orphanage placements are great places to volunteer. The organizations really need activity directors, tutors, and mentors for the kids. The children range in age from toddlers to teenagers. This is a great placement for independent, up-beat volunteers who like to have fun and want to make a difference in the lives of little ones!

*If you would like to teach at a school there is an endless list of possibilities. The minimum time commitment is 1 month. Most volunteers teach English, as this skill helps children to get jobs once they are out of school, and few children have the opportunity to study with a native speaker.

*NEW: Volunteers are needed at a school for HIV+ children. Many of these kids are not allowed to enroll at regular schools, so volunteers are needed to teach English, help with adminstrative duties, etc.

*Dual Program We are currently offering dual placements to volunteers who would like to teach part time at a monastery and volunteer part time at an orphanage. Volunteers teach at the monastery 3 days a week until the early afternoon, and then spend the rest of their time at a nearby orphanage.

Kids Programs in Kathmandu!

Highlights: Volunteers typically volunteer 6 hours a day at the orphanage (afternoons are the busiest), and then you have evenings and weekends free to trek in the Himalayas, rent a boat in Pokhara, or ride elephants in Chitwan National Park - there is much to see and do! Please check the program start dates on our website.
