Description:
The National Beekeeping Association of the Gambia (NBAG) was formed in November 2002. It is a non-profit making organization that is focused on promoting the beekeeping industry within The Gambia. NBAG has so far managed to develop a product range, centralize quality control, provide affordable high quality equipment, run beekeeping training workshops and promote beekeeping to a wide range of interested parties including, The forestry department, UNDP, Peace Cops and Concern Universal.
Highlights:
Our volunteers are currently providing business support to NBAG and helping them to train their staff. The future aims of NBAG are firstly to decentralize operations through the establishment of local project sites. Secondly to establish a micro-finance operation to provide invaluable start-up capital to new beekeepers on 'fair' terms and thirdly the association will stimulate the supply of honey by building a rural-urban supply chain to ensure honey producers get the best price. In each country we have a local manager. We are very careful over security and health issues, and upon arrival you will be met at the airport by our manager and taken through an induction and to your placement to settle in.

-Briefing prior to departure -airport pick up -management support organizing -accommodation -introduction to programme and partners -monitoring during stay -organizing events -sorting out local issues -project development and funding Over the last ten years we have contributed funds towards development work in many countries e.g. building schools in Nepal and Tanzania, sponsoring teachers and individuals, providing teaching/sports materials to schools and giving training and equipment to small local businesses.
Salary / Pay: Volunteers make a small financial contribution to help the development of our projects worldwide.

Typical Volunteer: The average age of a Mondo volunteer is 32. Couples and families are welcome and receive a 15% discount (this also applies to friends traveling together). Approximately 50% of our volunteers are non-UK based, with a large number of volunteers from North America, Europe and Australia. Our volunteers have a good level of general education and are enthusiastic, culturally aware, adaptable and highly motivated.

MondoChallenge's Mission Statement: MondoChallenge is an ethical, non profit organisation which sends volunteers (gap year, university & post university, career break, early retired) to help with development programmes in Africa, Asia and South America. Operating alongside the MondoChallenge Foundation (which funds development at grassroots level), our volunteers are community based and their normal stay is from 1-6 months. Activities include teaching, business development and eco-tourism.
