As a part of its community service, Intelligentsia cooperates with other non-profit organizations to influence SW Florida various environmental policies, in order to bring positive changes to related issues. Advocating new, environment friendly approaches is a challenging task, as needed long term political decisions often don't match short term vision of decision makers. We are seeking motivated students, ready to take on these challenges and willing to help with implementing improvements to current (often insufficient) policies. Applicants will have an opportunity to assist during all stages of our ambitious plans and therefore enhance their knowledge in environmental issues, lobbying strategies, law procedures and water management policies. List of main tasks: - Learn about existing policies regarding specific policies issue; - Research on other organizations involved in that specific issue; - Conduct networking and ideas sharing with matching partners; - Document positions of key players and other involved parties; - Learn about fundraising and media interacting to achieve project objectives; - Learn about commercial and and social factors influencing newly developed policies implementation; - Critically asses current situation and suggest improvements; - Deliver presentations to involved groups and general public; - Based on feedback, improve initially suggested solutions; - Advocate your positions with decision makers.
Highlights:
The intern and visitor participants live together in a close-knit atmosphere within several dormitory houses. This mix of nationalities and individuals brings with it various benefits and complications of working and living with people of differing cultures and backgrounds. Together they take recreational trips to visit various parts of Florida. Participants have come from many nations. All nationalities are welcome to apply but those coming from overseas must be prepared to secure the appropriate visa.
Qualifications:
Engineering, Chemistry or Environmental Science qualifications would be ideal.
