South Africa
Dates: Visit our website for upcoming start dates
Description:
Help with world-class conservation work on this project and enjoy the variety of wonders that South Africa has to offer. GVI works with The Vervet Monkey Foundation, a wildlife sanctuary providing homes for over 700 primates (most of which are Vervet monkeys). The foundation is in need of volunteers who are prepared to become completely involved in caring for these wonderful animals. You can join for two weeks or more, and will receive full training in all aspects of animal care. The project is located at the foot of the Wolkberg Mountains in a beautiful region about an hour and a half away from the Kruger National Park. You will enjoy the fabulous flora and fauna of South Africa and experience life in a traditional African bush camp. * How this program makes a difference: The Vervet Monkey Foundation runs the largest rehabilitation center for monkeys in South Africa. The project was started ten years ago to help orphaned and injured monkeys. On average, they receive 40-60 babies per year and 30-60 adults. In 2002 the project received the Care Center award. In addition to caring for endangered monkeys, the center also runs outreach programs and gives talks at schools, clubs, organizations and conservancies, which volunteers may also have the opportunity to participate in.
