Prezewalski Horse Repatriation to the Wild
Mongolia
Durations of Program: 2-4 weeks, 5-8 weeks, 9-12 weeks and 3-6 months
Typical Duration of Program: 5-8 weeks
Dates: April to October. July and August are very popular
Description:
Several harems of horses were released in the reserve after being kept under semi wild conditions. We need to monitor the horses to make sure they are adjusting to their new environment and to gain a better insight into their behaviour. You need to be able to work without assistance in tracking down the harems on foot and horse-back and compiling data on their whereabouts and behaviour. You are not allowed to feed or touch the horses (takhi) as this would damage the process of assilation into the wild. You will need to help us encourage conservation awareness in local communities. The majority of the field word is done on foot. Following the horses on horseback is done for about 2 hours, 2 or 3 times a week in the morning or evening. You will be asked to work for about 6 hours a day for 4 days a week. All week-end and Wednesdays are free time.
