Volunteer Teaching in Pangani, Tanzania

  Tanzania
    Zanzibar

Durations of Program: 9-12 weeks and 3-6 months
Typical Duration of Program: 9-12 weeks
Dates: Flexible

Description: Pangani is a beautiful village 30 miles south of Tanga. The River Pangani runs through it and the coast sweeps round onto 3 miles of unspoilt sand beaches, with rocky coves in the other direction.

Our volunteers are currently working in four different schools in the Pangani region. Three of these schools are currently holding adult education programs run by our volunteers. The students range in age from about 15 to 40 and the focus of these classes is on practical English, helping local people to become guides and to expand their skills. As well as these projects we are also working at a secondary school where volunteers are teaching English and providing support to the local teachers.

All of our projects are community based, giving volunteers the opportunity to learn from, as well as teach the local people.

Becky Young, from UK (Kikokwe) - "As I qualified with TEFL, I was aware that my methods were very different and yet the staff and students welcomed them and the children did really well. Kikokwe in general is a small, happy school; the teachers are kind and the children enthusiastic."
